BROKEN PATH COUNSELING
Whole-Person Healing Through Trauma-Informed, EMDR-Centered Care
I offer trauma-informed, evidence-based care for those carrying the weight of trauma, betrayal, anxiety, and chronic pain. Working from a psychodynamic, somatic lens, I use EMDR alongside a holistic mind-body-spiritual approach to help clients process what's stuck, rebuild somatic trust, and move toward lasting healing rather than temporary relief. I primarily work with those who have a history of trauma and/or anxiety. I occasionally work with couples using the Gottman Method. Spiritual Direction and Christian counseling are available by request - always client-led, never assumed.

Why This Work
My Story
I grew up as a "pk", a pastor's kid. When people would come to the house for pastoral care sessions, I was the one tasked to bring in tea, coffee, snacks, tissues. One of the things I learned at a very young age was how to sit with others during difficult times.Â

As I became older, my journey led me down various paths from working in professional theatre and the arts, to living in Northern Ireland, to working in a children's hospital, and attending seminary, these experiences grew my exposure and experience to seeing others work through their inner struggles in a varity of ways. Some were able to find and thrive in new circumstances through creative experiences such as art, drama, and movement. Others were able to find peace and joy through prayer, support, and faith. My philosophy of solution-focused expertiential whole-person care has been defined these experiences as well as lived experiences of grief, trauma, ADHD, and chronic pain.Â

Tovah's Approach to Healing
Trauma-Informed. Evidence-based. Led by faith when it is invited into the conversation.
I believe healing is never just about symptom relief. It is about becoming whole again in mind, body, and spirit. After trauma, illness, and loss, you are changed, life is not about going back to who you were. That isn't possible. It is about becoming the best version of yourself in today's circumstances.

Evidence-Based Modalities
Compassion creates the environment, but you also deserve methods supported by research. Here’s what I rely on the most and who tends to benefit from each one.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Best for: Trauma, PTSD, Phobias, and Anxiety.
A research-supported method that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional charge and clearing the "stuck" sensations in the body.
IFS (Internal Family Systems)
Best for: Conflict within oneself, deep-seated life patterns, and self-criticism.
Often called "Parts Work," this approach helps you understand the different parts of your personality (the critic, the protector, the wounded child) to lead from a place of "Self" clarity and compassion.
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
Best for: Anxiety, Depression, and Chronic Pain.
Focuses on psychological flexibility—learning to accept what is out of your control while committing to actions that improve and enrich your life.
Gottman Method
Best for: Couples, Communication issues, and Betrayal recovery.
A research-based approach to relationships that focuses on strengthening the "Sound Relationship House" through practical tools for conflict and connection.
My FRAMEWORK
A Whole-Person Framework
I don't separate mind, body, and spirit when we talk about healing, because you don't experience life that way either. My approach is holistic: we'll consider your story, your nervous system, your relationships, and your faith (if that's part of your life) as we work toward lasting change, not just symptom management.
Heritage
Where you've been.
We honor your story — including the parts that were interrupted or written by someone else.
Wellness
Where you are now.
We work with your nervous system and body, not just your thoughts, using evidence-based tools.
Formation
Who you're becoming.
We move toward the person you're growing into, on the far side of what happened to you.
Specialties
Healing the Mind, Body, & Spirit
Trauma, Betrayal & Chronic Pain
Trauma and betrayal don't just live in your memory:Â they live in your body, your sense of safety, and your ability to trust. My work centers on helping that nervous system settle, so healing isn't just something you understand intellectually, but something you feel.
I also have a particular interest in the overlap between chronic pain and mental health. Living with a body that hurts changes how you think, grieve, and hope. That deserves a therapist who takes the physical, not just the cognitive and emotional domains, into consideration.
By Invitation Only
For clients who want it, I also offer Spiritual Direction and Christian Counseling which is always client-led, and always respectful of your voice and your spiritual boundaries. Faith is never assumed or required; it's simply available if it's part of how you want to heal.
